Some jobs simply are not posted. They are found jobs or created jobs. Recently I sent in a résumé for a job that wasn’t posted. How did I know there was an opening? I read the local online newspaper – AnnArbor.com and there was an article of about a woman that lost her job – I knew by reading that article that they would be looking for someone new – so I sent my résumé to the board. Many would have waited to see if the job was posted…it was bold to just assume but I also knew they needed to fill the position quickly.
Other hidden jobs you can look for would be companies that just received grant money, or government funding, they are growing or expanding – they will need help and it is quite possible they don’t have the time to sit down and put job queries together. So be bold – send them a very personal congratulations cover letter with your résumé.
You have just tapped into one of the hidden job markets!
PS – I interviewed for the position – I didn’t get the job but I did get a contract offer for training their membership – I will talk about that in another post.
Another good place to look for job creation (or job destruction) is in real estate transactions; if an organization goes through all of the problem of moving from one building to another, there’s almost always some underlying turmoil that represents an opportunity to identify a hidden open position.
This is a GREAT idea…Thanks Ed
