For the full article read it here. Decent article that might make you want to go back to school or change your career. Article is fairly light so do more homework if you are interested in a change.
If you want a taste for the article the career sectors are:
1. Medical – no surprises here – aging population
2. Government
3. Military – article didn’t mention this but a lot of people work for the military as civilians as well.
4. Accounting – this one I have to disagree with – I know accountants that have been outsourced or laid-off.
5. IT – fairly recession proof unless we start outsourcing these jobs again.
You couldn’t be more wrong about IT being recession proof. It’s been clobbered the same as everything else. It does not sell anything, it’s a cost center which puts a big X on its back.
The biggest laugh I got from your writeup was saying that some job was going to go up 45% by 2018. That’s 8 years away! No one has any clue what kind of software anyone will even be using by then, never mind what the job market will be. The only thing you know for sure is that it will continue to change and churn rapidly.
Chris this was just a synopsis of an article from Monster Hot Jobs – I didn’t write the article, I just found it useful and thought I would pass it along. I agree with you that making claims that far out in advance is probably insane but these are predictions, certainly not written in stone.
In Ann Arbor, Michigan we are starting to see a serious up-tick in the IT job sector. More in-sourcing and less out-sourcing of IT positions.
This blog is intended to help job seekers in the Ann Arbor area and within a 1-hour drive (nothing in Ohio – Michigan only) of Ann Arbor to find jobs.
